Name(s):
William Baker
Nicknames:
Flint Marko (alias), Sylvester Mann, Quarryman
Age:
36
Species:
Human
Gender:
Male
Alignment:
Neutral/Evil (depending on circumstances)
Residence:
New York
Personal Relationships (Optional):
Spider-Man: Either respectful rival or current target
Sinister Six: Either accomplices or people who go too far
Alex O'Hirn/Rhino: Regular accomplice and close friend
Occupation:
Criminal
Abilities:
Sand-Like Body: Sandman has the ability to transform his body; being able to will his body hardened, compacted, dispersed, shaped, or a combination of those qualities, by manipulating the sand and rock particles around him. His mass, strength and shape shifting ability correspond to the number of sand and rock particles that comprise him. The more he incorporates (nearby) sand grains and rock granules into his body, the more those qualities are enhanced.
Shapeshifting: Using the sand molecules in the surrounding area, Sandman can mold his arms and hands into a variety of shapes meant for bludgeoning his enemies with. He can also turn himself into a sandstorm, which enables him to fly great distances and to suffocate his enemies.
Impervious to Damage: More often than not in combat, Sandman's ability enables him to absorb most standard blows with little to no ill effect other than reforming himself; a relatively fast action that allows him to swiftly recover. It also makes his body resist most common elements; even taking advantage of some.
Mass Manipulation: Using the molecules he's surrounded with, Sandman is capable of stretching his sand molecules, which makes him capable of growing to at least double his size.
Glass Transformation: If exposed to temperatures over 3400 Fahrenheit, the sand molecules in his body transforms his being into glass, which he is fully capable of controlling. The downside is that while the transformation from sand to glass is virtually instantaneous, going back is a lengthy process.
Weaknesses:
Although he is invulnerable to most physical attacks, even projectiles because they pass through him, water is a different story to him. If he is soaked with water, his sand molecules begin sticking together, and makes him unable to avoid taking attacks, and to form stronger shapes. An additional weakness is if different molecules are sprinkled among his sand molecules, such as a pack of quick-drying cement. Also, he can be contained by containing several parts of his sand-like body in separate containers.
Another weakness is irregular elements. While Marko knows that water is his greatest weakness, this has made him blind to the few different elements that are actually capable of wounding his sand-like build, because the sand molecules haven't been in contact with such elements before (one example would be the alien symbiote that surrounds characters like Venom).
Personality:
Marko is a very rough and blunt man; always speaking his mind and doing what he needs to do in order to make it big. He has little respect for the authorities, and if they arrive to try and stop him, he'll rarely pay them more heed than "here's a sandstorm, go play". Only for big-shots like Spider-Man will he take the time to actually brawl against. In spite of these rough qualities, however, he has a sense of honor to him; firmly believing that his goals can be accomplished without innocent civilians being hurt.
Likes:
A crime well done, fighting Spider-Man
Dislikes:
Hurting innocents, being bossed around too much
Appearance:
Bio:
After a rough childhood where he eventually realized that crime was the way to go in life, William Baker, after having been incarcerated on Ryker's Island (where he happened to befriend his estranged father), took on the psuedonym Flint Marko, and became a hardened criminal... who ended up being little more than a crook for Tombstone, who he initially dubbed "Big Man".
However, his first series of crime, alongside his accomplice Alex O'Hirn, were consistently thwarted by the Spectacular Spider-Man himself. After a while, he was chosen by the Big Man himself to undergo some experiments underneath Oscorp, meant to endow Marko with an incredibly durable silicon armor. Unfortunately, the experiment went awry, and it completely changed Marko into the titular Sandman. After this, Hammerhead, who was taking orders from Tombstone, offered Marko the chance to get revenge on Spider-Man; however, Sandman decided to sever his ties with the crime boss, and struck a solo career.
The results, much like when he was first working for Tombstone, were pretty predictable; Spider-Man was able to thwart him by using a bag of quick-drying cement to incapacitate the criminal, and is sent to jail. However, one Electro shows up to free him, alongside Doctor Octopus, Shocker, Vulture, and even Alex O'Hirn, who had been turned into Rhino thanks to Tombstone. They formed the Sinister Six, who proved to be more than a match for Spider-Man... wait, no; they found themselves swiftly defeated by the webslinger, as he was using the alien symbiote this time around; something Marko found was even capable of wounding him.
After another embarassing defeat involving the Sinister Six, Marko spent his time in jail to start honing his sand abilities; learning to increase his mass exponentially by absorbing more sand molecules than ever before; something that proved highly advantageous during a mission where Hammerhead intended to take down an oil tanker by the beach. However, it became highly apparent that ship was going to explode, which would endanger a lot of civilians. Having no intention of being labeled a murderer, Sandman assisted Spider-Man in evacuating the crew, before he seemingly sacrificed himself by wrapping his body around the ship; being crystalized by the powerful explosion. However, after Spider-Man left, he reformed himself; having discovered a new ability his powers had left him, namely to transform his body into glass if exposed to enough heat.
Since then, he's returned to working solo; usually sticking to simpler crimes just to make ends meet, but still dreaming of making that "big score" all on his own.
