Name(s):
Zatanna Zatara
Nicknames:
Primak, Zee
Age:
21
Species:
Magically imbued human
Gender:
Female
Alignment:
Good
Residence:
New York
Occupation:
Stage magician
Abilities:
Zatanna is a magician by nature, her abilities being genetic from her father. As both a tribute to him and a focal point to her magic, she uses her powers by uttering a command backwards; this is reserved for her most powerful magicks. She is capable of performing magic by either speaking normally or not speaking at all, but her greatest feats are generally performed by speaking backwards. In extreme situations, she can use her own blood to recite her spells if the need arises; though again, it needs to be written backwards.
In addition, she's a skilled illusionist by trade; not even needing her powers to perform some of her stage tricks. In fact, sleight of hand tricks are part of her exercise routine for her actual powers, and she's even invented her own variant of the three card shuffle game. She's also capable of tarot reading to divinate the future; though she admits herself that she's far from precise in her readings.
Weaknesses:
Her magic is tied directly to her self-confidence; if something strikes her that she cannot shake off, then her magic loses its focus, and she would eventually become unable to wield her magic as effectively as before. Like other magicians as well, overuse of her powers leave her fatigued, leading to extended periods of rest being necessary for her to recover. Also, not even her magic can deal with elements like nth metal, which just negates any magical attacks.
Personality:
Being a magician, Zatanna is confident in her own abilities (which, given her established weakness, is a must), though she knows not to flaunt her abilities when it's not necessary. She's tough and independent, but isn't above asking people for help if it's necessary. Generally, if her skills are needed, she'll help out to the best of her ability.
Likes:
Memories of her father, magic shows
Dislikes:
Frauds believing they're the real deal, confidence issues
Appearance:
Bio:
Daughter of the renowned stage magician Giovanni Zatara, Zatanna inherited her own magical talents directly from that man. What she wasn't initially aware of was that Giovanni was part of the Justice Society of America, aiding in keeping the safety of the worlds intact via his own magical abilities. However, mysterious circumstances led to his disappearance, being announced dead.
Still unaware of the existence of the JSA, Zatanna discovered her own magical abilities, and began honing them; starting her own stage magician business to earn herself a living. That seemed to help quite a bit, as she kept a stable economy running by performing her magic tricks at avenues where she could get herself booked in. All the while, though, she kept researching what had happened to her father, just so she could discover what had happened to him, and potentially find a way to bring him back. Her search proved fruitless, however, and for now, she simply honors his memory by performing her magic act.
