Name(s):
Kent Edward Nelson/ Doctor Fate
Nicknames:
Fate, The World's Greatest Mage
Age:
126, why do you ask?
Species:
Human- Supremely Magically Imbued
Gender:
Male
Alignment:
Good
Residence:
Tower of Fate- currently in the deep woods of Idaho- but it is an itinerant thing that Fate can have appear anywhere.
Personal Relationships(Optional):
One: Wife, Inza. He has some relations with various heroes, but normally, he is more of a consultant…unless some sort of outer god is called or a dimension is breached. Then he usually takes the lead.
He has some relationships, including to Shiera Hol and the other still extant members of the JSA- though Hol can't come over for tea without surrendering her stuff. Pity.
Occupation:
No job, independently wealthy.
Abilities:
Fate has untold magical powers granted to him by the Helmet of Fate, an item now innately tied to his existence. So long as the Helmet exists, so does he.
The helmet allows him to teleport, move through walls, fly, use a gigantic pile of spells including ones of massive telekinetic force, great longevity, animation of the inanimate, and pass into and out of various dimensions. Fate's a pretty powerful guy.
Weaknesses:
Nth metal. Really screws with magic. He doesn't usually allow Shiera Hol near his place without special precaution- the metal in her equipment must be contained in order for magic flow to be stable. He gets mad if she picks at him for it.
Personality:
Fate was formerly a tired sort- he has been defending the world since he got the Helmet from all sorts of rather distasteful beings. At some point in the 70s, he retired, married, and pretty much gave up. However somehow the JSA managed to locate him and drag him back to the good fight, which he has now returned to with some more vigor- and the coaxing of Inza, his wife. She wouldn't stand for him sitting around all the time. He can be charming and friendly- but don't ask him to take off the helmet. Only Inza gets that.
Likes:
Inza, history, magic, alchemy, chemistry, his few precious friends, archaeology, plans being executed correctly, a long bath after a hard day's work, and puppies.
Dislikes:
Not having time to cast his spells, outer deities that he has to fight, people asking him to take off his helmet, Shiera's Nth metal stuff screwing with the magic around his home, cats.
Appearance:
Bio:
Kent Edward Nelson was born in Breckenridge, Missouri in the grand year of 1887. He grew up strong under the tutelage of his father, a mystic of sorts and stage magician and archaeologist named Sven Nelson. His mother had left his father at an early age, but his father was slowly beginning to make a name for himself. However, the true target of Sven Nelson's research was an ancient artifact, the Helmet of Fate, only be found someplace in Egypt. Kent took up archaeology like his father, and, in 1918, they made their way to the sandy dunes of the Protectorate of the crown (of the UK, at the time). Two years search and they finally located the helmet…resulting in terrible tragedy. His father was killed in a booby trap in the tomb where it was located, though Kent survived to take the helm. The helmet gave him extraordinary powers…and incredible responsibility.
The helm allowed him to combat the seemingly constant onslaught of those that wished to destroy earth, threats known and unknown to mortal man, some unspeakably terrible that scar him to this day. But he beat them all…for 55 straight years. A whole life of saving the world had made him exhausted. He retired, and, still looking young, married a young woman named Inza, and tried to leave the fight. However, he was dragged back into it by the Justice Society of America, and indeed did join the fight for justice- especially at his wife's insistence that he get off his ass and get working. Inza is actually a skilled mage herself.
I'll handle her…somehow…?
