The Great State of Texas, USA. For having a huge population, it wasn't exactly frequented by heroes, but it managed. Usually the city of San Antonio was peaceable. One of the more populated cities in America with 1.3 million people
"Everybody on the ground!"
Frost Financial Center was right next to I-35, the road out of San Antonio toward Nuevo Laredo and the Mexican border. It was a long drive, but if you could keep everything quiet, you might be able to hit the highway and get moving before the authorities closed in. Four large men in trench coats and balaclavas wielding a Micro Uzi, a TEC-9, a Remington 870, and a MAC-10 strode into the bank.
Everyone pretty much screamed and did as they asked as the shotgun was put into battery loudly with one pump.

"Get the cameras!"
Mike immediately ran over to the cameras and began spraying the lenses with black spray paint.
Rem pointed the shotgun at a teller cowering behind the counter, holding a large sack forward.
@rem@
"Money, now! And no dye packs! Move!"
The spooked teller immediately started yanking cash out of drawers. Wad after wad of 20s and 50s and 100s went into the bag.
@ingram@
"Where's the manger! Now!"
A spooked older gentleman in glasses with a massive bald spot gulped a little too hard and got grabbed. They'd cased the joint, they knew who he was anyhow.
@ingram@
"Vault! Now!"
They'd found out that it was a time-lock and that it could only be opened at a certain time from looking at installation plans they'd burglarized six months ago from the safe manufacturer. Of course they'd come by and changed the time and locks, so it was only a matter of planning when it would be open and hitting that particular instance. Inside said vault they swiped several safety deposit boxes and about $560,000 in cash. With the money in the tills, it ended up being about $575,000. Not bad for a year's work, I suppose. Either way, three stopped before they exited as Ingram threw out all of the bags from the rear exit where they had parked. They waited an agonizing thirty seconds for one of them to explode, but none of them did. No dye packs, as asked.
@ingram@
"Alright, come forward, they didn't blow. Let's get out of here."
He had left Mike behind to kill them if they blew. But they loaded their ill-gotten gains into a white Dodge Sprinter and latched up and took off…
Only for thirty more seconds in the ride for one of the bags to explode in the back of their van, activating a tracking device. Within five minutes, several officers were en-route, chasing the fleeing van down I-35. This kind of chase would definitely get attention, and a news helicopter was quickly on top of things.
Mike, who was driving, snarled angrily at the cops following them.
@mike@
"Damn! So close!"
@rem@
"Keep moving! I ain't goin' to jail!"
@ingram@
The leader, obviously, tapped on Tech's shoulder and thumbed over his back. Tech nodded and threw open a rear window. Instead of wielding the machine pistol from earlier, he pulled out a fully automatic M4 Carbine and gunned down the first cop car chasing them, shredding the officers inside with a half-magazine of 5.56 NATO. That car went spinning into another, taking it out with the dead officers' car. Another half-magazine went into another pursuing car, taking IT out. That was three cars down and six officers dead or wounded. A police helicopter flying overhead also got a magazine blasted at it, though it didn't crash or go down. This had turned from a bank robbery into a violent chase- all on national news.
Tech closed up the door and reloaded, but Mike, who was driving, glanced back in the window to check their pursuers…
@mike@
"…What the…"
From what he could see, a lone man riding a large motorcycle was coming after them. He seemed to have on a Stetson hat and was wearing a red bandana. Blue jeans and a blue shirt…ohSHIT.
@mike@
"Damn it! It's that Vigilante asshole!"
Ingram cut across his throat to Tech, who nodded and threw open the door again…
Vigilante cursed his luck at the same time he was more than excited to get this over with. Someone out murdering cops needed to be put down like the dogs they were, but this was just a bit ridiculous for him. A botched bank robbery turned into a shooting spree. He'd been shot at before, but never on his motorcycle like this on an open highway.
"Tarnation, these folks are gonna git more people killed!" he said, frowning under his bandana as he throttled up the WLA-X and accelerated into easy sight of the van. He'd blown by a police barricade on an on-ramp, so he was likely already in a ton of trouble. Ah, well. Handle that hitch later. More important to shut these murders down before they killed any more officers or innocent people in their attempt to escape.
Check the speedo. Going about 95 miles an hour. His bike could do that easy; their van had to top out soon. They blew by Exit 152A, Vige trying to keep his bike in line- until their back door opened again.
"Aw, hell!"
A quick flick kept him on their tail while he dodged a rain of M4 fire that was meant to kill him, too.
"You sons of guns better pull over!" he uselessly shouted. At this speed already that wasn't going to happen.
In fact, he was only answered with the bottom half of the magazine. He dodged that, too.
"Now I'm mad!"
He drew one of his two energy magnums and thumbed back the hammer. The weapons were double-action, but obviously also worked as single action. Before the robber could shut the door to reload, Vige pulled his trigger exactly once and his energy round smashed into the M4, breaking it into pieces in Tech's hand, surprising the hell out of the robber.
Now how to take 'em down without makin'em run off the road…
Tech swore something nasty as the M4 came to pieces.
@tech@
"Son of a bitch! How the hell'd he do that?!"
@ingram@
"I've heard he was a good shot, but…"
That's when they heard the energy magnum behind them fire again- and when Mike up front swore even worse.
@mike@
"Oh, #($*!"
The overhead sign for exit 150B came crashing down on the hood of their van, timed perfectly that Mike slammed on the brakes and skidded to a stop in the middle of the highway. As they opened the door to get out and try and run with what they could, they found Vigilante standing there, both magnums in his hands.
"Now I betchu boys think y'all can make it past me…"
Ingram drew his weapon and before it could even level at Vigilante his hand was broken when a shot hit him square on the back of his palm, sending the gun skittering away. Rem had a bullet crash right into his chest, knocking him flat over, and Mike and Tech both held up their hands- and got shot in the knees for it, breaking them so they couldn't run while the cops caught up.
@ingram@
"You son of a @#$%*!" screamed the lead robber, holding his broken hand as police sirens wailed.
"Beggin' your pardon but don' talk about my momma like that. I'ma hopin' y'all like death row, ya hear? Ain't nobody gonna murder cops and rob banks in my state."
He hopped on his bike and floored it off the highway, losing the news helicopter in the nearby suburbs. Good. No need to get followed and caught on his own way out...
