As an Atlantean, Aquaman possesses the ability to breathe underwater, being able to survive down in the most crushing depths of the ocean. He's also capable of swimming at 100 m.p.h. whilst underwater. He also possesses a limited telepathy that allows him to communicate with, and also command all life underneath the sea. He also possesses superhuman qualities such due to his physiology tempered by the sea. He also possesses limited hydrokinesis; able to form spheres, melee weapons and shields made from water.
Weaknesses:
His largest weakness happens to be extended periods of time spent above the ocean floor. If he spends more than an hour on land without getting in contact with water, he would start to dehydrate and weaken (much like how Superman's strength is crippled due to kryptonite).
Personality:
Arthur is a character a touch down to earth; appreciating the finer, smaller things in life (which, given his profession, is sort of required), whilst taking care to make sure that his kin is kept safe. He's also a noble hero of sorts; making sure to put the safety of the ocean above his own safety.

Born Arthur Curry, he was conceived between the human lighthouse keeper Tom Curry, and Atlanna, a water-breathing being that had been exiled from the lost city of Atlantis. She couldn't stay to care for their newborn son for long, so Arthur was raised by his father alone. As he grew up, he began to see the kind of powers he had, including communicating with the ocean life, surviving underwater, and swimming at incredible speeds. After coming of age, he decided to use these abilities to aid the oceanlife any way he could.
He eventually discovered the lost city of Atlantis during his travels, but found that like his mother before him, he was treated as an outcast, mainly due to his blonde hair. Supposedly, this hair was a superstitious sign by the Atlanteans that signified ill omens, and tradition kept them from accepting him as one of them. He didn't mind, though; his mission remained to protect the oceanlife, even if he wouldn't be appreciated by everyone due to this sign. Even against threats like Black Manta, he showed little fear...
...though eventually, there has to be a time for the ocean-dweller to be noticed by those living up on dry land...
