Hey, he has appeared in many of the Turtles series, comics and both cartoons (not the current one yet). Sides, it seems off to have just one series from the Mirage comics while DC and Marvel have like a whole collection

Usagi is from an alternate earth set in the Feudal times and everything human is an animal. Said to be the counterpart of the legendary earth samurai Miyamoto Musashi. Born the one son of a village head, he entered an arts of war school in his early years. That is until he saw some of his schoolmates lose to a single warrior name Katsuichi. Usagi quit school and started to train under this man, impressing a man name Lord Mifune who became Usagi's first master.
Usagi served Lord Mifune as a loyal bodyguard until until Lord Hijiki, an ambitious and evil daimyo, had Mifune's family killed. Enraged, Mifune set a way against the daimyo but because of a traitor in his army, he perished. Not wanting his master's head be used as a trophy, Usagi took it and buried his master. Since then he became a ronin, training even more to become a samurai as he takes various jobs, those hired or even walked into along the way.
Among some of his adventures, he was taken into an interdimensional tournament called the Battle Nexus. There he mets the mutant rat from earth, Splinter who he has befriended after joining to fight off a dragon known as Drako.
